STAGE 4 ARCHAEOLOGICAL SALVAGE EXCAVATIONS

Avoidance of a significant archaeological site, through parkland or green-space dedication is the preferred mitigative option, as it protects and preserves the site for future generations. In many cases, however, this approach is not feasible. ASI is fully capable of conducting salvage excavations of any size on both pre-contact and historic sites using responsible and cost-effective excavation methods. In certain instances, we will seek input from experts in other scientific disciplines, such as geology and biological anthropology, in order to ensure that work in the field, as well as during the analysis phase, is carried out to the highest standards possible.

The data recovered during the course of an excavation are analyzed by Archaeological Services Inc. personnel who are specialists in a diversity of subjects, including pre-contact and historic material technologies, settlement patterns and plant and faunal remains. The use of sophisticated computer programs for cataloguing and analyzing finds allows this work to be carried out within a relatively short period of time, with great flexibility of approach and a minimum of expense.
