Data collection and analysis are just the first step in reconstructing and piecing together
the history of past cultures. Without interpretation, archaeological data are meaningless.
At ASI, we apply innovative and state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies to the
interpretation of archaeological remains.

For example, we use 3-D imaging to bring to life an Iroquoian village and we were among the first to use this technique on a pre-contact burial
site. In the area of interpretation of pre-contact sites, we have helped to implement
cutting-edge technologies such as the archaeo-magnetic dating of ceramic vessels, neutron
activation analysis (sourcing) of chert (flint) samples from sites, chemical (isotopic)
analyses of animal and human bone samples to determine dietary trends and EMS analysis of
use-wear patterns on stone tools, to name a few. This work of course usually requires input
from specialists in the scientific community.
Archaeological Services Inc. is also very active in the field of public and educational
archaeology, tailoring programs to suit the specific requirements of clients and creating
publications which speak to both public and professional audiences. We also specialize in the
design of interpretive displays and have provided expertise in the development of pre-contact
Aboriginal village reconstructions.
